MSNBC: Reporters favor Dems 9:1

MSNBC did a report that found that TV/newspaper journalists contribute to the Democrats 9:1 over Republicans.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19113485/

The analysis was done on the following subset:

"— Federal candidates, PACs and parties in the records of the Federal Election Commission, not the separate state campaign records.
— The period January 2004 through the first quarter of this year.
— Donors in news jobs, not corporate executives or publishers, who are allowed by nearly every news organization to donate."

My opinion:
I'd be happy allowing journalists to make the donations; but I just want them to stop pretending to be objective. Admit the bias. I see it similarly to how the movie industry puts ratings on movies.

Conflict of Interest

I found this article very interesting:  http://www.worldmag.com/articles/13075
An organization getting $63.7 million dollars in yearly revenue from providing abortions to teenagers should not be trusted to teach children in Sex Ed about avoiding pregnancy. There's a clear conflict of interests.

Will Lil' Bush dumb people down?

I read about Lil' Bush, the Comedy Central cartoon about Bush + friends. On one hand, I'm always up for a good joke.  On the other hand, I think this may be a bad thing because:
1) political comedies tend to push straw man arguments.
2) political comedies make it very natural for cheap shots.
3) The subject matter (Bush) is setup to be very one sided.
4) making people laugh is a standard technique to avoid making people think.

I find political comedy shows tend to enter important debates, but always fall back to saying "Hey, we're just a comedy show" when they fall below the intellectual quality bar. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

There are a lot of real and serious issues here to be discussed, and I doubt that cartoons like Lil' Bush will help.  Maybe I'll be pleasently surprised.
